Nurse Accused Of Stealing Narcotics From Senior Living Center

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Ramsey man is accused of stealing a number of narcotics from patients in the senior living center where he worked.

Kevin Avery Boldt, 49, faces one count of theft/use/transfer of a controlled substance without consent.

According to the criminal complaint, on June 23, 2014 officers received a report of a drug theft at The Farmstead, a senior living facility located in the 13700 block of Quay in Andover.

The report stated the director of clinical services believed one of the employees, Boldt, had been stealing drugs.

The complaint states that the facility first became aware of the problem on June 16, 2014 when they received an inter-office email stating "Look into the Farmstead's narcotic administration/disposal. ASAP."

When Farmstead officials received the pharmacy records they found discrepancies with at least eight patients, all of which lead back to Boldt.

All of the patients with discrepancies ordered Oxycotin but never received it.

According to the criminal complaint, Boldt was not involved with the day-to-day patient follow-up or ongoing care of residents, but when the patient was prescribed a narcotic he insisted to be involved.

An employee of Farmstead who worked alongside Boldt stated that each month when the medications came in, all the nurses in the pharmacy, including Boldt, would meet in a conference room and sort out the medications for each patients to be distributed. When it came to narcotics, Boldt would check them in personally and said he would deliver them personally as well.

The employee stated she never saw Boldt destroy leftover narcotics either.

According to the criminal complaint, a random inventory search showed that narcotics were missing from patients Boldt had signed off on.

Boldt was sent him from a work and an inventory search of his office revealed narcotics hidden around the room.

If found guilty, Boldt could face up to 10 years in prison, up to $20,000 in fines or both.
