Gophers' Beat Wisconsin 5-2 On Hockey Day Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – After settling for a tie with Wisconsin Friday night, the University of Minnesota men's hockey team dominated Saturday in a 5-2 win over the Badgers at Mariucci Arena.

The game was one several played as part of Hockey Day Minnesota. It was also the third-largest crowd, 10,384 fans, in the history of Mariucci Arena.

Travis Boyd led the Gophers in the win with two goals and an assist. Mike Reilly also had three assists in the win, and Adam Wilcox made 24 saves in net. Boyd scored twice in the first period, and Sam Warning scored to give the Gophers a 3-0 lead after the first period.

Connor Reilly scored in the second period, his team-leading 11th goal of the season. Christian Isakson scored his first goal of the season for Minnesota's fifth goal.

Twin Cities native and former Benilde-St. Margaret's star Grant Besse scored both goals for Wisconsin.

The Gophers (11-7-2, 2-2-2-0 Big Ten) host the second-annual North Star College Cub next weekend at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The tournament includes Minnesota State University, Mankato, Minnesota-Duluth and Bemidji State.
