MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Downtown Saint Paul was a very busy place Saturday night.

As many as 150,000 people were expected in downtown for more than a dozen events.

The biggest was the finals of this year’s Red Bull Crashed Ice. The downhill ice-racing competition kicked off at about 6:30 p.m., with 64 men and 16 women in competition. A spokesperson says as of 8 p.m., a record 140,000 people were in attendance.

There was also a free concert by local singer and “The Voice” competitor Kat Perkins at Rice Park, and the 2015 North Star College Cup is at the Xcel Energy Center.

The city of St. Paul expects to make $12 to $15 million just this weekend.

Tens of thousands of people were expected to use Metro Transit for free light rail and bus rides.

And more than 40 bars in the capitol city offered shuttles to Crashed Ice.
