1 Injured After House Explosion In Beltrami Co.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person was injured after a house explosion in Beltrami County, according to the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said around 5:35 p.m. Monday the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office received a report of an explosion near Carr Lake Road Southwest in Grant Valley Township.

Callers reported hearing a loud explosion and experiencing a rattling force strong enough to knock pictures off the wall.

Crews began searching the area to determine the source.

Police said at 5:49 p.m. another report came in that smoke was coming from a residence on Buchanan Avenue Southwest.

Crews responded to the scene and determined this was the source of the explosion.

Upon arrival, crews found one victim, Kenneth W. Swenson, among the debris from the home. Swenson, the home's owner, was injured and taken to Sanford Hospital via ambulance.

Swenson's condition is unknown at this time.

The Bemidji Fire Department said the cause appears to be accidental in nature. Investigators believe it may be related to a propane gas leak within the residence.

The cause is still under investigation by the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.
