MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The family of David Winters is pleading for him to end the manhunt and turn himself in Tuesday night.

His stepdaughter talked exclusively to WCCO’s Jennifer Mayerle.

Angela Meyer fought back tears as she talked about wanting Winters to turn himself in.

She said she lost out on years with him when he was in jail in the past and is afraid if he doesn’t surrender, she may lose him forever.

“I love him, and I want him to make the right decision,” she said.

Meyer calls Winters the father figure in her life.

The 41-year-old is at the center of a manhunt, wanted for shooting at police in a parking lot of a St. Louis Park business Tuesday morning.

“There’s so much more to him than just this, and I know that will be hard for people to see,” his stepdaughter said Tuesday. “He’s not coming home tonight, we know that. I would hate for him to have to go [home] in a body bag.”

She said Winters helped her get clean nearly two years ago.

Now she’s hoping her support of her stepdad will help him have the courage to surrender.

“I’m very sad right now,” she said. “I just want him to make the decision: Are you going to go out in a blaze of glory or will you humble yourself and just know that this doesn’t have to be the way it ends? … Turn yourself in, Dave. Please, please for your kids’ sake.”

She said she hopes to see him again she told me, even if it is on the other side of glass in jail.
