Minnesota's Zahui B On Top 20 List For National Award

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota sophomore Amanda Zahui B. (ZOW-ee bee) is one of the top 20 late-season finalists for the John R. Wooden Award, given to the player of the year for college women's basketball.

She's one of three Big Ten players on the list, determined by a panel of media members and announced Friday.

Zahui is averaging 17.8 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game, ranking fourth in the country with 18 double-doubles. She has already become the program's all-time leader in blocks with 202. With 40 more points, she'll become the fourth Gophers women's player to reach 1,000 career points before the end of second season. Lindsay Whalen, Laura Coenen and Rachel Banham are the others.

The Gophers, 19-6 overall and 8-5 in the conference, play at Penn State Sunday.
