Goin' To The (Frozen) Lake: Frank & Chris Visit Alexandria (Part 2)

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (WCCO) -- Frank Vascellaro and Chris Shaffer are wrapping up this year's season of Goin' to the (Frozen) Lake visits with their second day in Alexandria.

Plenty of viewers emailed Chris and Frank about places to stop and eat. One of them was Traveler's Inn for breakfast. The eatery has been there since 1925.

Just down the street is Bella's in Broadway. Last February, WCCO viewers named Bella's the most romantic restaurant in Minnesota.

And Interlachen Inn claims the title of "Best Little Bar and Restaurant in the Alexandria Lakes Area." It's certainly worth a stop for a steak, Chris and Frank said.

Andes Tower Hills isn't just a ski area, although it boasts the best downhill skiing near Alexandria. There's a tubing hill there as well. You can rent equipment here, take lessons, and enjoy winter in lake country without actually being at a lake.

They also have a pretty fun setup on weekends, like Garbage Bag Racing! Frank and Chris had some incredible fun trying it Friday

And they didn't go down a little hill -- it's a black diamond!

Even if the weather isn't cooperating for outdoor fun, or if you just want to warm up inside, there's a great water park to try. Arrowwood Resort contains The Big Splash, which is open to anyone -- you don't need to be a guest at the resort.

It's only open on weekends in the winter, but it's another great option for the family.

Another big source of pride in this community is the new Alexandria Area High School, where 1,400 students grades 9 through 12 attend.

Construction finished up last year, and it's a model in environmental design. It includes a beautiful Performing Arts Center that seats around 1,000.
