'Survivor' Returns For 30th Season Wednesday

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The 30th season of Survivor begins Wednesday night.

It's the longest running reality-competition series on TV.

Since the premiere of the show on May 31, 2000, 460 contestants have participated since the show.

The 30th season they're trying something new – class structure.

They'll start with three tribes, made up of blue collar, white collar and no collar.

Host and Executive Producer Jeff Probst spoke with WCCO's Jason DeRusha via satellite.

DeRusha asked Probst how he good of a contestant he thought he'd be.

"Well, my friends tell me I would be voted out early because I'm too lippy and I would say something to  offend one, or maybe too many people," Probst said. "That's pretty accurate."

DeRusha also asked about the show's audience and how they keep things fresh.

"This show just keeps on going. And new generations, I think, continue to love it," DeRusha said.

"You just hit on it for me. The 7-8-9-10-year-olds. I look at the show through their eyes now, because there's been so many kids [who watch.] I think it's slightly changed our show just a little bit, and I like that," Probst said.

"Survivor: Worlds Apart" premieres at 7 p.m. Wednesday on WCCO.
