MnSCU Leaders, Unions Reach Agreement On Revamp

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Administrators and faculty at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities say they've reached an agreement over a proposed system revamp.

Two unions and the system announced Tuesday they've agreed to give students and faculty more input in the plan's rollout. They say the revamp will now be campus-based and regionally focused.

Students and faculty have clashed with system Chancellor Steven Rosenstone over his "Charting the Future" plan. They've said its focus on efficiency would turn the system's 31 institutions into homogenized degree factories for Minnesota industry.

A union for MnSCU faculty asked the system's trustees to fire Rosenstone in November over the plan.

Negotiations between the parties got a jolt in January when Gov. Mark Dayton said he wouldn't propose any extra MnSCU funding until they resolved their differences.
