Police: 7 Members Of 2 Mpls. Gangs Charged With Distributing Cocaine
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Almost a dozen members of two of Minnesota's most violent street gangs have been indicted on federal weapons and drug charges.
Police said the suspects used violence and intimidation to control a drug operation stretching across two states.
Six suspects associated with the Taliban and Young N Thuggin gangs, have been arrested. Investigators are still looking for one person.
At a news conference Wednesday morning, law enforcement officials said the gang members traveled to St. Cloud, Duluth and Fargo to sell crack cocaine.
Police said when the gang members sold crack in Minneapolis for $20 and crack cocaine for $150 they doubled their profits in greater Minnesota and in North Dakota.
Last year, the U.S Attorneys Office indicted more than a dozen members of the "19-Dipset" and "Stick up Boys" gangs.
"We are today announcing a new indictment of their main rivals," U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger said. "Leaders and members of the Taliban and YNT are charged with using violence and intimidation to control a drug distribution operation stretching from Minneapolis to Fargo. Working closely with our law-enforcement partners, we are continuing to investigate and stop drug dealers and the violence of that too often accompanies their illegal activity."
