Snowmobiler, 51, Seriously Injured In Cass County Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 51-year-old Andover man is seriously injured after a Cass County snowmobile crash Saturday morning, the Cass County Sheriff's Office announced Monday.

On Saturday at 11:53 a.m., the sheriff's office was notified about a snowmobile crash involving a logging truck on the Goose Lake Trail in Hiram Township, which is in rural Hackensack.

Upon arrival, authorities determined that a snowmobile traveling north on the trial attempted to avoid a logging truck that was southbound on the trail by moving to the side. The snowmobile, however, rode up an embankment on the side of the trail, causing it to begin to tip on its side onto the trail. When the driver attempted to use his legs to keep the snowmobile upright, he was hit by the rear wheels of the empty trailer the semi was pulling.

The snowmobile driver, identified as Dean Husfeldt, was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi, 57-year-old Bruce Pangerl of Backus, was not injured.
