Lawmaker Wants Bust Of Late Rod Grams In Minnesota Capitol

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Republican lawmaker wants to install a bust of former U.S. Sen. Rod Grams in the Minnesota Capitol.

Sen. Paul Gazelka of Nisswa's bill is to be formally introduced Wednesday and would honor Grams, who died in 2013. Grams was a news anchor at KMSP-TV for nearly a decade before winning a congressional seat in 1992 as a Republican.

The small-business owner won an open U.S. Senate seat two years later. He lost it after one term to Democrat Mark Dayton, now the governor of Minnesota.

There are 17 busts now in the state Capitol, including one to the late Hubert Humphrey, a former Democratic senator and vice president.

Meanwhile, several Democratic lawmakers are behind a bill to name a St. Paul-to-Canada bikeway in honor of late Congressman Jim Oberstar.
