Vikings Re-Sign RB Matt Asiata, Bring Back QB Shaun Hill

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO/AP) -- The Minnesota Vikings announced Tuesday they've re-signed running back Matt Asiata, who became a restricted free agent after last season.

In three seasons with the Vikings, Asiata has appeared in 42 games with 10 starts. He led the Vikings in rushing last season with 570 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Those scores came in three games in which he scored three touchdowns. The Vikings won all three games.

He also caught 44 passes for 312 yards and one touchdown last season.

Asiata filled in for Adrian Peterson, who missed all but one game last year while addressing a child abuse case involving his 4-year-old son.

Veteran quarterback Shaun Hill is also returning to the Minnesota Vikings to serve as Teddy Bridgewater's backup.

A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that Hill agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth $6.5 million on Tuesday. The person requested anonymity because an official announcement has not been made.

The 35-year-old Hill started eight games for the St. Louis Rams last season in place of the injured Sam Bradford. He completed 63.3 percent of his passes for 1,657 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Hill was signed as an undrafted free agent out of college by the Vikings in 2002.

The Vikings had a need for an experienced backup after trading Matt Cassel to the Buffalo Bills.
