Lawmakers Hear Birders' Call For Safer Glass On Stadium

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Bird lovers' long push to make the Minnesota Vikings' new stadium safer is moving to the Legislature.

It may be too late for the bird-safe glass protesters want — glass panels are ready to be installed at the downtown Minneapolis stadium. Protesters have said the reflections from the clear glass could lure birds to their death.

A bill introduced in the Minnesota House Wednesday by Rep. Carolyn Laine would require etching or coating on the glass to make it safer. The Columbia Heights Democrat says the stadium needs to be safer for migratory birds.

The Vikings have said they're open to testing film coatings produced by 3M.
