Get Out Of The Sandbox And Get Your Core In Gear

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Now that spring is here, it's a great time to get back into a workout routine. And you don't have to lug a bunch of exercise equipment around with you.

WCCO Mid-Morning's Kylie Bearse talked with health and fitness expert Ali Holman. The two went to a playground to show how you can use what's already there to get a fully-rounded workout.

And, lest you think that you're robbing kids of their valuable swing set time, these are exercises that won't take you an entire hour-plus. And they'll allow you to spend some quality time with your kids while they play.

One exercise Holman showed us is the swing plank pose, which works your core, shoulders and chest in one fell swoop. She said that they are far more effective than simple crunches.

Simply place both hands on the swing and lean forward into a plank pose. Then pull your abs in and crunch the swing seat back to your knees.

Another great routine involves running up the slide, which is usually at a steep incline. And then, as a bonus, you get to slide back down.
