Sheriff: 1 Killed In Two-Vehicle Crash In St. Croix County

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving three people Sunday afternoon in western Wisconsin, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 3:28 p.m. at the intersection of State Highway 65 and County Highway E in the Town of Warren. An initial investigation of the crash shows that a 34-year-old Hudson, Wis., man was driving a 2013 Ford F350 truck southbound on State Highway 65 and a 30-year-old man from Montana was driving a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on County Highway E.

Authorities said the Jetta failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and was hit by the truck. The car rolled into a field in the southeast corner of the intersection.

The man from Montana driving the Jetta was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Jason T. Collins. Authorities said he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office said the man from Hudson, Wis., and his passenger, a 67-year-old man from River Falls, Wis., were not hurt in the crash. They were also wearing seat belts.

Authorities said it's the fifth traffic fatality of the year in Wisconsin. The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.
