MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Nearly a month after he fell through lake ice with his grandfather, a 2-year-old boy from Alexandria has died.

Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria says it is handling arrangements for Hayden Minnerath. The home had previously handled arrangements for the boy’s grandfather.

On March 3, the boy and his grandfather, 50-year-old James Minnerath, were riding an ATV on Lake Andrew when the vehicle broke through thin ice.

It’s unknown how long the two were in the water, but rescuers said the ATV sank 18 feet deep.

James Minnerath died shortly after being pulled from the lake.

Hayden Minnerath was brought to Children’s Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
