Reward Grows To $2,000 In Lakeville Tainted Dog Treat Case
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Lakeville Police say they are increasing their reward to find out who is deliberately trying to harm dogs in their community.
Early last month in the southern portion of Lakeville, harmful items were found hidden in dog food and treats left outside for the pets to eat. The items included nails, screws and other items that were knowingly harmful to animals.
There have been hot dogs filled with metal, balls of steel wool with unknown capsules inside that also had peanut butter on them. One resident in the area had to have 11 screws removed from her dog's stomach after eating a tainted treat.
Some pets had to be hospitalized, leading to medical bills costing in the thousands of dollars.
Lakeville Police offered an initial reward of $500 for the arrest and conviction of the party responsible. That reward was increased to $2,000 on April 1. Anyone who would like to donate to the reward fund can do so at the Lakeville Public Safety Foundation web site.
