St. Paul Man To Make 1st Court Appearance In Easter Fatal Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A St. Paul man charged in connection to the death of his girlfriend on Easter is scheduled to make his first court appearance.

Dimitri Harrell, 21, is charged with second-degree murder. Harrell will be at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, Harrell admitted he was holding the couple's 3-month old baby girl when his gun went off inside an apartment on Pierce Butler Route.

Sammiria White, 19, was killed from a single gunshot wound to her head.

Several family members were also inside. Police say the couple had been arguing in a bedroom when relatives heard the gunshot.

Witnesses said Harrell blamed it on White and then fled the scene. He later turned himself into police custody.

According to the criminal complaint, Harrell admitted he stored the handgun under the newborn baby's mattress.

If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison.
