Twins Blog: New Food At Target Field

Check Out Our Slideshow Gallery Of New Target Field Foods

The Twins return to Target Field for their home opener on Monday, April 13. Fans will want to bring their appetites to the game.

The team introduced some impressive new foods to its already expansive menu. From adding iconic Twin Cities restaurants to new vegan options, there's something everyone will enjoy.

Since there are a lot of options, I'll begin with two favorites. Darby's Bacon Tot Dish will be an obvious fan favorite (at least it's now one of mine). It's tater tot hot dish meets nachos, or tot-chos. It'll be served at the State Fair Classics stand near center field/Section 133.

There's a variety of locally distilled craft cocktails. I'm a big fan of the Apple Fizz. It's made with Panther Distillery's spiked apple whiskey and ginger ale. It's fresh, refreshing and strong, and I'm told it will sneak up on you. You can also indulge in a Manhattan, whiskey sour and whiskey Coke.

Du Nord is also serving specialty drinks, including a Moscow Mule, Gin Daiquiri and Spiked Hot Chocolate. These will be served at a kiosk near Section 111, by first base.

Perhaps the biggest change to the ballpark this off season is the new Barrio space in left field. It's right inside Gate 6 at the light rail station. The space is filled with standing tables, multiple TVs, a giant cabana/booth and a two-tiered bar rail to stand and watch the game. It will no doubt be a popular place to watch late-summer games. Barrio serves up fresh guacamole and chips and pork carnitas tacos as well as an assortment of tequilas, margaritas and craft beer.

Adjacent to that space you'll smell fresh Red Cow burgers on the grill. The popular restaurant has a new cart next to Section 126, also in left field by Gate 6. Three options are available: Blues Burger (beef patty topped with apricot jam and blue cheese), Ultimate Red Cow Burger (beef patty with all the fixings and Red Cow sauce) and the 60/40 Bacon Burger (60 percent beef patty, 40 percent bacon and cheese topped with Summit Beer mustard and candied bacon). All three options are served with hand-cut chips. I'm really excited about this new option.

Keeping with the theme of popular metro restaurants taking up residency at Target Field, Murray's Steakhouse has introduced a second sandwich for baseball fans. The Cheese Steak Sandwich is served at the Mill City Grill concessions. It's a sirloin steak topped with cheddar cheese sauce, peppers and onions on a fresh onion roll. A great second option to the popular Murray's steak sandwich which has been a ballpark staple since Target Field opened in 2010.

Schwan's will debut a new stand in the Legend's Club featuring six new options, including ice cream, pizza, burgers and flat-bread sandwiches. Both the BBQ Bacon-Stacked Burger and Caprese Stacked Burger are double-deckers, with two beef patties and specialty toppings. The Buffalo Chicken Flat Bread and Italian Fire-Baked Flat Bread sandwiches are great alternatives to regular ballgame fare.

If you're looking for something not fried, but fresh, visit the Garden Goodies cart. The salads are created and prepared by local students. They are introducing two new salads: Mardi Garden Salad (includes potatoes, corn, veggies and a barbecue vinaigrette) and the Wild Rice and Turtle Bean Salad. Both are light and perfect for hot summer days.

Target Field has also expanded its vegetarian and vegan options this summer. Hot Indian Foods from the Midtown Global Market has a new cart set up near Section 120. It serves authentic Indian food including two tasty dishes: Chicken Tikka (chicken breast in tomato curry with rice and hot Indian slaw) and Vegan Aloo Gobi (potatoes, cauliflower and squash in a tomato-based curry).

Andrew Zimmer's creative food options have expanded within the ballpark. His cart is now a concession stand outside Gate 14/Hrbek's Bar, near Section 114. There, you'll find three non-bizarre food options. A Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich, Smoked Meat Sandwich and a Bacon Sandwich (it's exactly how it sounds). All are flavorful and quite filling. To wash them down, AZ Canteen serves three specialty drinks: Grapefruit Paloma, Orange Aid and Cucumber Lemonade.

Speaking of Hrbek's, there's some new options in there as well. The biggest novelty is the College Daze Bloody Mary. It's a fresh version of the Bigger, Better Burger Bloody Mary. This year, instead of a slider, the popular drink comes adorned with a slice of cold pepperoni pizza. The meal/drink is $19. Other new options at the bar include Oreo churros, a brat-stuffed burger and shrimp corndogs.

Goose Island Pub is a new space near Section 229 on the club level where fans will find craft beer and great views of the field.

Two other notables from the tasting tour: Mac's Fish 'n' Chips is serving walleye in addition to its Fish 'n' Chips baskets. Izzy's Ice Cream will bring the popular State Fair flavor, Church Elder Berry to its stand.

The final new item isn't available in the ballpark. The Twins Food Truck has added a Deep Fried Pickle Sandwich. It comes on a pretzel roll. It's sweeter than I expected, but still tasty. No strong dill pickle taste.

Many of Target Field's fan favorites will continue to be available as well, including Kramarczuk's Sausages, Turkey To Go, Tony O's, Butcher and the Boar, Loon Chili and JD Hoyt's Pork Chop on a Stick.
