Bemidji Area Home Destroyed In Grass Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- High winds and dry conditions were a bad combination that caused several grass fires in the Bemidji area on Saturday. One of them destroyed an elderly man's home.

Firefighters were called to a home in Fern Township, but by the time they arrived, the house was fully engulfed. Fire officials said the flames were fueled by strong winds and with how quickly the blaze spread, it took firefighters more than three hours to get the fire under control.

Authorities said an 82-year-old man living at the home was able to escape safely. The home was a total loss.
