MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — People who were abused by priests and haven’t come forward may now have less time to do so.
On Thursday, a federal judge ruled victims will have until Aug. 3 to file claims.
Lawyers for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis requested the earlier date saying it would help resolve claims faster and lower the cost of its bankruptcy.
They added it would also mean more of the funds would go to victims rather than pay lawyers’ fees.
However, the attorney for the victims says the date goes against state law, which gives victims until May of next year for abuse that happened long ago.
