Woman Pleads Guilty In Aunt's Murder In NE Minnesota

CLOQUET, Minn. (AP) — A 21-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to intentional second-degree murder in the stabbing death of her aunt on the Fond du Lac Reservation last fall.

St. Louis County Attorney Mark Rubin says Lydia Barney of Brookston entered her plea Tuesday. The judge accepted the plea. Sentencing is scheduled for July 16.

Barney admitted she used a kitchen knife to kill 31-year-old Waubunoquay Dawn Randall in the victim's Stoney Brook Township home.

Randall's body was found Oct. 19, the day after she was last seen with Barney.

Police say they found Barney with apparent blood on her clothing. They say she admitted to having Randall's phone.

Police say Barney identified clothing as hers that was found in a nearby fire about two hours after police found the victim's body.
