Black Lives Matter Plans More Events For Friday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An estimated 1,500 protesters took to the streets of downtown Minneapolis Wednesday night in solidarity of the city of Baltimore.
Officials with Black Lives Matter Minneapolis released a statement Thursday, thanking those who came out to support Freddie Gray and the city of Baltimore. The week started there with riots after Gray's funeral. Gray died a week after being taken into custody for possession of a switchblade.
While in custody, he suffered a spinal cord injury and went into a coma. After his funeral Monday, there were protests and riots across the city of Baltimore.
Protestors with Black Lives Matter Minneapolis gathered at Gold Medal Park Wednesday night before marching down Washington Ave. in Minneapolis. There were no arrests and police said the event was peaceful.
Officials with Black Lives Matter Minneapolis say two additional events are planned for Friday. The first will be a student walkout and rally at 8:30 a.m.at the Hennepin County Southdale Library, followed by a march at 12 p.m. at Martin Luther King Park.
