Decorated Morristown Veteran Convicted Again Of Child Porn

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A decorated United States Army veteran was convicted and sentenced for the second time within 10 years for possessing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Ronald Richard Shankey, 50, was convicted in 2007 for possessing 1,047 images of child porn in Wisconsin.

Shankey, from Morristown, sent an unsolicited email just weeks after his release to an undercover officer with Internet Crimes Against Children task force, in which he asked for child porn images of children between the ages of zero and 12. He also sent two images to the officer.

Homeland Security traced the email to Shankey's residence, where investigators found a laptop with 400 child porn images and nine videos. Investigators say the images depicted prepubescent minors in violent and sadomasochistic situations.

Shankey, who is a former soldier-of-the-year with 20 years of service, was sentenced Wednesday to 14 years in prison. He was also given a lifetime term of supervised release.
