Salvation Army Looking For More Volunteers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - The Salvation Army is in need of more volunteers, as the demand for food grows in the Twin Cities.

Between last October and March of this year, the Twin Cities Salvation Army's eight food shelves served more than 16,700 households. That's up from 14,500 during the same period last year.

That is the largest increase in 11 years.

Hot meal programs, like one on East Lake Street in Minneapolis, are also seeing an increased demand.

There, the number of families needing food has nearly doubled in the past six months.

The Salvation Army is looking for consistent volunteers to help serve meals and pack groceries at four locations in the Twin Cities.
