Report: CHS Field Is The Greenest In America

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Saint Paul Saints new ballpark, CHS Field, has been named the greenest ballpark in America, according to Ryan Companies US, Inc.

The new field, located in the Lowertown neighborhood of St. Paul, seats 7,000 and consists of 138,000 square feet of green space.

According to Ryan Companies, CHS Field is the first major sports venue to meet B3 Sustainable Building 2030 Energy Standards. This is a progressive conservation program that is designed to reduce energy use and carbon in commercial, institutional and industrial buildings in Minnesota.

The site of the field was once one of the top ten most contaminated brownfields in the state.

Some of the sustainable features include reusing rainwater for irrigation, recycling building materials for additional projects and using renewable energy from solar arrays.

Additionally, according to Ryan Companies, part of the site was also turned into a neighborhood dog park and rain garden for the local community.

The Saints will play their first game on the field on Thursday, May 21 against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
