Study: Children Not Getting Enough 'Active' Playtime

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A new study in Pediatrics, the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, finds most 3- to 5-year-olds are not given enough time for active play in child care centers.

Researchers in Seattle looked at nearly 100 kids and found they were sedentary for nearly 70 percent of the time.

They recommend increasing outdoor time.

Meanwhile, another study in Pediatrics finds dance classes do not give children enough physical activity.

California researchers tracked students ages 5 to 18 and found they spent nearly two thirds of the class standing, listening or stretching.
