MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It’s safe to say many of us are working for the weekend this week. And that’s because it’s a long holiday weekend!
And with the weather a little dicey, WCCO This Morning found fun things to do both indoors and outdoors.
Visit The Minnesota Zoo
This weekend is your chance to see Hawaiian Monk Seals. The Minnesota Zoo will be the new home for five Hawaiian Monk Seals, making it the only place outside of Hawaii to see them. There will be seal demonstrations at 12, 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Grab A Seat On A Patio
It’s the third annual Minneapolis Patio Week!
Restaurants in Minneapolis will offer food and drink specials on every type of patio dining you can think of: rooftops, decks, sidewalks and on the water. Patio week takes place Sunday through next Saturday.
Travel Up North
Heading to the Brainerd area for the holiday weekend? Check out the 7th Annual Street Car Showdown at the Brainerd International Raceway. The showdown features cars that can run 6 to 7 seconds at over 200 mph. Admission is $25. Kids 12 and under are free.
Indulge In Sweet Treats
Let’s all scream for free ice cream!
Sweet Science Ice Cream is holding its largest free ice cream tasting to date at Urban Growler Brewery in Saint Paul. Get your scoop Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Commemorate Memorial Day
And on Monday, travel through the past at Fort Snelling with a special living timeline of military life through history during this special day honoring America’s soldiers. See large-scale military demonstrations throughout the day, play children’s games and explore Minnesota’s oldest military post. Admission is $11 dollars. Veterans get in for free on Memorial Day.
Of course many towns and cities also have Memorial Day parades and ceremonies to pay tribute to the men and women who’ve given their lives for our country.
