MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — An Inver Grove Heights veteran is getting to know his new partner — a four-legged helper named “Rex.”

Ed Abrahamson is a Gulf War veteran who recently retired from the South St. Paul Police Department and the Dakota County SWAT Team.

Like many who have been to war, Abrahamson suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

After asking for help with his recovery, the non-profit Rebuilding Warriors provided him with a service dog.

“He’s an unbelievable dog,” Abrahamson said. “I’ve had dogs before and I feel like this is a really good bond. He’s just a super dog, it melts my heart.”

Rebuilding Warriors rescued Rex from an abusive situation and gave him special training.
