Expert Shares Affordable Noninvasive Ways To Rejuvenate Your Skin

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Botox might sound scary or maybe treatments sound too expensive, so this week we're looking at three non-invasive treatments under $400.

In order to do that, WCCO headed to Skin Savvy at Wayzata Medical Spa to get answers about those tricky brown spots that can pop up because of the sun or hormones.

Mariah Herndon is a 33-year-old mom who says she's "definitely critical" of her appearance. That's probably because she's a make-up artist and hair stylist.

"I definitely have brown spots around my eyes and my mouth from pregnancy a few years ago," Herndon said.

That's not uncommon, according to Licensed Esthetician Jill Schierholz.

"They start seeing brown spots pop up, things that they've never seen before, and they just want to get rid of them before they get worse," Schierholz said.

She does that by using intense pulse light or IPL.

"It is a photo facial, it's essentially light that is going to attract to certain things in the skin that cause discoloration," Schierholz said.

Herndon gets a mini facial to clean and balance the skin.

Schierholz describes that the light will make the spots become more discolored for a bit.

"Helps pull that up to the surface gently where it just looks a little darker for seven to 10 days, and then it just sheds like dry skin coming off," Schierholz said. "Also stimulates collagen and pore size."

So, what does it feel like?

"Almost like a quick rubber band flick on your skin. Some areas are more sensitive. The eye and lip were the worst out of it all, but nothing where I was like 'please stop,'" Herndon said.

People's results vary, depending on what caused people's damage in the first place.
IPL does cost $300 per treatment.

Herndon says she would do it again, she noticed changes.
