Gopher Women's Hoops Gets Duke In ACC/Big Ten Challenge

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota women's basketball team will travel to North Carolina and face Duke this year for its game in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The league announced the match-ups Wednesday. Minnesota will travel to face the Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Thursday, Dec. 3. A time for the game will be announced at a later date.

The last time the two teams met was in the 2004 Elite Eight, when the Gophers beat Duke 82-75 to advance to the Final Four.

Minnesota returns three starters from a team that went 23-10 and made it to the NCAA Tournament in coach Marlene Stollings' first season. It was their first NCAA appearance since 2009. The Gophers top returner is senior guard Rachel Banham, who was named last year's Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year before her season ended early with a torn ACL.

Last year's Gophers squad set program records in points, made field goals, made three-point field goals and blocked shots.

The Blue Devils finished last season 23-11 and got to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in six years.

Minnesota is 4-4 all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
