University Of Minnesota Alumni Donate $17 Million To Athletics Village

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota announced Monday it has received a $17 million donation from boosters John and Nancy Lindahl to go towards the school's Athletics Village.

The donation will include about $12 million in support for facilities and programming in basketball and football, about $2 million to the Carlson School of Management, about $2 million to the College of Education and Human Development and $1 million to pediatric cardiology research.

The Lindahls are active volunteers and donors for the University of Minnesota. They were also previously involved with the renovation of Northrop auditorium, the construction of TCF Bank Stadium to bring football back on campus, endowments for faculty and funding medical research.

They also serve on the athletic department's leadership council working to raise $190 million for new athletic facilities at the University of Minnesota. Athletic Director Norwood Teague said recently that about $70 million had been raised for the project and a goal was in place to break ground on the facilities project in August.

The $12 million gift to the athletics facilities campaign is included as part of that $70 million.
