1 Dead In Polk Co. Head-On Collision

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Polk County Sunday evening.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, at 6:56 p.m. officers responded to multiple calls reporting a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 8 near 125th Avenue in Beaver Township.

Upon arrival, police learned that 23-year-old Abdiweli M. Mohamed, of Minneapolis, was traveling westbound on Hwy. 8 when his car crossed into the eastbound traffic lane.

At the same time 23-year-old Mohammed H. Mohammed, of Barron, Wis., was traveling eastbound and tried to avoid A. Mohamed by moving left of center.

Police said that as M. Mohammed did this, A. Mohamed swerved to the right to get back into his intended westbound lane. The two vehicles hit head-on.

A. Mohamed's car rested in the center of the roadway. M. Mohammed's car traveled into the north ditch of Hwy. 8.

According to the police, M. Mohammed's passenger, 28-year-old Asri D. Dubow, of St. Paul, was ejected from the vehicle and found lying in the ditch. She was taken to Regions hospital to be treated for her injured.

Another one of M. Mohammed's passengers, 22-year-old Umalkhayr A. Ali, of St. Paul, was trapped in the car.

Police said she was extricated from the car and taken to Regions Hospital, where she later died.

A. Mohamed and M. Mohammed were both treated for their injuries at area hospitals.

Police said Hwy 8. Was closed and detoured for roughly four hours.
