4-Year-Old Girl Who Was Shot In Chicago Transferred To MN Hospital
CHICAGO (AP) — A 4-year-old Chicago girl who was shot in the head was discharged from the hospital Monday as her mother pleaded for an end to violence in the city.
"Stop killing our children in our city please," said Trennetta Greshman, 29, who was planning to move the family to Minneapolis. "Please put the guns down because you're killing our future and our city."
Jacele Johnson, wearing a bright pink coat, waved to onlookers and journalists as she was released from Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital. She had visible staples in her head and was put in an ambulance that would take her to a Minnesota hospital where she will undergo further treatment.
The girl was shot May 22 outside a prom party in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood.
Gresham called her daughter a fighter, saying "I never gave up on her and she never gave up on me."
Jacele had been admitted in critical condition after the shooting and was upgraded to fair condition. Doctors said that the bullet didn't go too deeply into her brain, but it's too dangerous to surgically remove part of it.
