Not Everyone Gloomy During A Rainy Thursday

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Unlike the past two days, Thursday was not exactly poolside weather.

South of the cities in Red Wing and in Rochester emergency managers were on standby for up to six inches of rain and flooding. But the heavy stuff went south to Iowa.

On the edge of the Mississippi, we found some fishers.

In typical Minnesota fashion, 7-year-old Luke and 8-year-old Lily Keller of Hastings kept rolling in weather that might slow some people down.

"The fish are coming out more," Luke said.

"Rain is not very bad unless it's pouring and if it's pouring. Because if it is pouring, I get a little bit cold," Lily said.

They took the precipitation in stride and as a reminder of what fell from the sky not long ago.

"It was really cold, and right now I'm so thankful that now it is summer," Lily said.

Just down the river, they were prepared for the worst but say they got the best.

"This is perfect for us because it comes down slow, it settles into the ground, it doesn't run off," Director of Emergency Management Roger Hand said.

Hand said they were preparing for up to six inches and possible flooding. But he says the Mighty River is at six feet and flood level is 14.

"We're glad that we got a slow steady rain," he said.

The only county that did have a flash flood warning late in the day was Houston County. Most of the rain hit Iowa.
