Woman Charged In March Hit-And-Run That Critically Hurt Mother
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 30-year-old woman faces three counts of criminal vehicular operation in connection with a hit-and-run that critically injured a young mother in March.
Charges have been filed against Danielle Dennay Sivels, of St. Paul. Investigators accuse her of causing the March 16 crash at the intersection of 6th Street and Cypress Street on the east side of St. Paul.
Sophia Bouwens, a mother of two little girls, was broadsided in the crash. She sustained several fractures of her face, skull and spine. She had her jaw wired shut for weeks. Her GoFundMe page said that she only just started eating solid food again last month.
The criminal complaint says that Bouwens now currently walks with a limp, has problems with eyesight, and deals with short-term memory issues.
A surveillance camera outside a home near the intersection captured the crash and images of the other driver walking away from the scene. Another camera caught the other driver and two passengers taking off.
Sivels was arrested shortly after the incident, but was released from jail because the Ramsey County Attorney's Office needed more time for additional tests and investigation.
