Police: Man Dies In Worthington Stabbing, Suspect Arrested

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 46-year-old man was arrested Friday night after another man was assaulted and later died from injuries at a Worthington hospital.

Chim LoVan has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon causing substantial bodily harm, both felonies, in connection with the incident.

The Worthington Police Department was called at about 6 p.m. Friday to 1031 Oslo Street on a report that a man had been assaulted. The victim was taken to Sanford Hospital in Worthington, where he later died.

According to a criminal complaint, when officers arrived at the scene, they found a male victim bleeding from the mouth. The victim, identified by an officer as Blue Oudon Thyboualoy, was on a mattress on the floor in the fetal position. He said he had been stabbed.

Police asked who stabbed him, and he said "Monkey." According to the complaint, it's the nickname for LoVan. The victim told police that LoVan came to his house at about 3 a.m. that day and was trying to get into the house. The victim told him to leave and was shutting the door when LoVan stabbed him, the complaint states.

The victim was in severe pain and had been stabbed in the abdomen and arm.

Officers went to LoVan's residence and spoke with his wife. She told police he wasn't home, had last seen him at 5:15 and told her about a fight that happened before he left the residence. Officers contacted him, and he said he was in Spirit Lake fishing and denied knowing anything about an assault. He also said he knew people around town were talking about him being involved in an assault, the complaint states.

LoVan later told police that the victim had called him a racial slur, but he denied assaulting him. The complaint states LoVan went to the victim's house and the two got into an argument. He denied assaulting the victim, but said "You are going to die, you owe me," according to the complaint.

A third man at the scene said he didn't witness the assault, but said there was likely a money issue between the suspect and victim and that the victim owed the suspect. According to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner, Thyboualoy died from multiple stab wounds. In a search of Lovan's residence, officers discovered multiple knives.

LoVan is currently in custody in the Nobles County Jail. If convicted, he faces up to 50 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
