MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Two Eden Prairie police officers had to take matters into their own hands on Saturday after a woman went into labor at her residence.
The two officers were working on patrol Saturday morning when a medical emergency was dispatched not far from their location. A woman was nine months pregnant and had gone into labor. The officers, who have a combined 17 years of experience in the department, arrived within a minute and found the woman on the kitchen floor in labor.
An ambulance arrived a few minutes later as the officers were helping the woman inside. They brought the woman to the ambulance, but the baby decided it couldn’t wait. They delivered a healthy, full-term baby boy in the ambulance outside the mother’s home.
It was the first time either officer had helped deliver a baby. The officers, who have not been named, each received official Eden Prairie Police Department stork pins.
