Twin Cities Grammy Award Winning Group Launches New Single

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Sounds of Blackness is releasing its new single, "Black Lives Matter. No Justice No Peace."

Artistic Director Gary Hines told WCCO's Jearlyn Steele that the group has always had a mission.

"Sounds of Blackness, whenever we address a problem, we always try to also offer a solution. So we say that solution is for us to come together. People of all nationalities and backgrounds to address this problem, but before we do that we have to acknowledge the reality of it," Hines said.

Hines wrote the song, but said he also had help.

"I'm just a vessel for this. And, of course, the magnificent Sounds of Blackness singers and band are who we hear and see in the video," he said.

He said he hopes this song will become an anthem of sort for this movement similar to "We Shall Overcome" during the civil rights movement.

"They didn't do speeches during the marches, they sang songs," he said.

The song is available this week at Amazon and iTunes.
