Timberwolves Announce NBA Summer League Roster

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves start mini camp this week ahead of a trip to the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, but the team announced its summer league roster on Monday.

The Timberwolves open NBA Summer League play on Friday against the L.A. Lakers at UNLV. The roster will be highlighted by No. 1 overall pick Karl-Anthony Towns, first-round pick and Minnesota native Tyus Jones and second-year guard Zach LaVine, the winner of last year's NBA Dunk Contest.

Other notable players on the roster include Adreian Payne, guard Lorenzo Brown and former Big Ten players Jordan Morgan (Michigan) and Sam Thompson (Ohio State) as well as former Baylor guard Brady Heslip.

Team officials said Monday that Gorgui Dieng, Shabazz Muhammad and Andrew Wiggins will practice with the team at this week's mini camp and will play in Wednesday night's Summer Showcase at Target Center, but they will not play in the NBA Summer League.

Ryan Saunders will handle the coaching duties at the NBA Summer League. The Timberwolves are guaranteed three preliminary games before bracketed playoff games begin July 15.
