BLAINE, Minn. (AP) — A record number of teams have registered for this year’s Schwan’s USA Cup at the National Sports Center in Blaine.

Officials say a total of 1,153 teams will play in the tournament, which opens Friday and runs through July 18. That’s 93 teams more than last year’s tournament, which also set a registration record.

Teams will represent 19 states and 17 countries. Seventy-one Minnesota communities will be represented at the tournament.

The opening ceremony will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
