Sheriff: 1 Killed, 1 Hurt In Polk County (Wis.) Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 28-year-old woman from northwestern Wisconsin died Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash in Polk County, authorities said.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office responded at about 6:40 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of County Highways I and H in Georgetown Township.

When officers arrived, a woman driving a 2001 Plymouth Neon had been heading eastbound on County Highway I when she stopped for a stop sign. The driver then entered the intersection into the path of a 2005 Honda Pilot headed southbound on County Highway H, being driven by a 20-year-old woman from White Bear Lake.

The collision caused the Plymouth Neon to enter a ditch overturned at the southeast corner of the intersection. The Honda Pilot ended up in the northbound lane of County Highway H.

The driver of the Neon, identified as Bethany L. Mazur, was not breathing. Despite attempts at life-saving measures, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the crash is under investigation.
