Hundreds Show Up For Minnehaha Park Clean-Up

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnehaha Park is a popular destination for many people in the Twin Cities, which also means it can get very dirty.

About 1,600 people came out Sunday to clean up the creek and surrounding areas. Paddlers were on their kayaks and canoes to clean out debris in the lakes. Walkers with trash bags come out to clean the trails.

Volunteers hoped to collect up to three tons of trash.

"Last year we did three tons, the year before that we did three, before that it was two, two and then one ton. So every year we add more locations, we hit new places where we found trash and that's how we identify where things need to be picked up. And that's how we identify which number we're going to come up with," Event Coordinator Kelly Cochrane said.

Afterward, there were activities for adults and children, including water quality testing demonstrations, face painting and mini golf.
