Man, 60, Arrested After 8-Hour Long Standoff In Bloomington

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man is now in custody after an eight-hour long standoff with police in Bloomington.

According to the Bloomington Police Department, around 3 p.m. Wednesday officers were called to the 11100 block of Xavier Road. Police said they were responding to threats made by 60-year-old Mark Norling.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Norling but he refused to come outside.

The Bloomington Emergency Response Unit was then called in. They secured a perimeter while police attempted negotiations.

Norling again refused to surrender.

Around 9 p.m. the Bloomington SWAT team fired a chemical irritant into the home trying to force Norling out.

According to police, a number of gun shots were then fired inside the house by Norling. He eventually surrendered to authorities just before 11 p.m.

No one was hurt.

Norling now faces second-degree assault and terroristic threat charges.
