Fifteen's 5K Raises Money For Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A lot of money was raised Sunday morning for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Minnesota Twins closer Glen Perkins and his wife, Alisha, held the fourth annual "Fifteen's 5K" race in Minneapolis. Competitors ran from Gold Medal Park to home plate at Target Field.

The event got its name from Perkins, who wears jersey No. 15 for the Twins.

"It's important for Glen and I to give back to the community that supports him," Alisha Perkins said. "For me, running is such a big part of my life and we wanted to do something that was really family-friendly, easy and accessible for everyone. A race kind of became just the best option and for cystic fibrosis, we have two friends with little kids who have CF. So when you run the race, you feel what their lungs feel most of their lives."

Perkins and his wife along with four other Twins pitchers were at Target Field Sunday morning to cheer on participants and hand them medals at the finish line. The other pitchers were J.R. Graham, Trevor May, Blaine Boyer and Ryan Pressly.
