Toymaker Creates 'Cecil The Lion' Beanie Baby

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The toymaker Ty has created a special 'Cecil the Lion' Beanie Baby and the proceeds will benefit conservation efforts.

Ty has pledged all profits from the toy's sales to the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit at the University of Oxford. That was the group who had collared the real Cecil in order to study him.

"Hopefully, this special Beanie Baby will raise awareness for animal conservation and give comfort to all saddened by the loss of Cecil," Ty Inc. founder and chairman Ty Warnersaid in a news release.

The Cecil toy will go on sale at the end of September for $5.99.

A Minnesota dentist allegedly engaged in an illegal hunt in Zimbabwe last month, resulting in the death of Cecil. The dentist has been the subject of international scorn since the story broke.
