MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — From a problem with increasing prison deaths to an embarrassing stage malfunction, here are the four stories to know for Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Prison Deaths

The number of inmates dying while behind bars is on the rise.

A new report from the Department of Justice revealed the number of prison inmates dying from non-natural causes, like suicide and drug overdose.

All 50 states reported at least one prisoner death in 2013.

Congress is now discussing the criminal justice system and federal prisons and considering new ways to provide more resources to inmates.

Tom Brady Testimony

The transcript from Tom Brady’s testimony into the deflate-gate saga is now public.

In it, Brady denied ever asking anyone to tamper with the air pressure in footballs and Ted Wells — author of the investigation into DeflateGate — says he never told Brady withholding his cellphone or documents could be used against him.

The NFL Players Association included the testimony as part of their case, filed in federal court Tuesday. They’re asking the court to drop Brady’s four-game suspension.

Lenny Kravitz’s Stage “Malfunction

Kravitz bared more than he had probably planned at a concert in Sweden.

The singer was performing the song ‘American Woman’ in Stockholm on Monday when his tight leather pants completely split.

Kravitz recovered by quickly changing into a new pair of pants backstage. And just a warning: If you go to look up the photos or video of this concert, it is not safe for work.

Oh, No! Kermit & Piggy Split

It’s the summer of splits! The two Muppets announced they’re parting ways after spending decades together.

In a statement, the pair said: “after careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship.”

Kermit and Piggy say they’ll keep things professional and work together on TV.
