State Patrol: 14-Year-Old Bicyclist Hit By Car In New Brighton

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 14-year-old girl riding a bicycle was seriously hurt after being hit by a car in New Brighton late Sunday morning, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities responded to the accident at about 11:50 a.m. on Silver Lake Road at the ramp to eastbound Interstate 694. When officers arrived, a 1998 Oldsmobile sedan was headed southbound on Silver Lake Road and attempted to turn left to enter the I-694 entrance ramp.

The car hit the bicyclist, a 14-year-old girl, as she rode in the crosswalk northbound on Silver Lake Road. The bicyclist, identified by the State Patrol as Aeris V. Ewing, was taken to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis with serious injuries.

The driver of the car, identified by the State Patrol as 28-year-old Raymond D. Widstrand, was not hurt. The State Patrol is investigating the crash with assistance from the New Brighton Police Department.
