MyCole Pruitt Making Plays To Keep His NFL Dream Alive
MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) -- One of the interesting highlights to an NFL training camp: The new guys, the ones you have not heard of making a splash.
For the Vikings this week, it's tight end MyCole Pruitt. He got his chance to play early, to prove when given an opportunity he can make a play. He caught a 34-yard touchdown from Mike Kafka in the Vikings' 14-3 win over the Steelers Sunday night in the Hall of Fame Game.
"I feel like I can make plays. I feel like I have what it takes, you know it's just hard work and being a consistent player on a daily basis," Pruitt said.
When you are a fifth-round pick playing a position that requires both athletic prowess and some offensive line grit, you have to prove you can play in the trenches and the open field.
"I need to be both. If I'm not making mistakes, I'm going to be where I'm supposed to be and be reliable. After I get the ball in my hands, make a play definitely," Pruitt said.
The key is learning and adapting and implementing, knowing that being multi-dimensional is an asset.
"The toughest part is probably the mental aspect of it. You know, you've got to learn a lot from the playbook and I'm playing a couple different roles so it's a little hard, but you know it's fun," Pruitt said.
The early analysis so far? So far, so good. In other words, the NFL dream lives on.
"It means a whole lot, man. It's a dream come true, and I'm ready to take full advantage of it," Pruitt said. "Probably when I first started playing football I was just doing it for the fun. Then I ended up being pretty good at it, and it ended up being the route for me."
